Successful website – basics
My experience as a Website Design and Hosting professional taught me that peple tend to neglect the effort needed to stay on top of things when i comes to their website. The indstry develops very fast and it has been growing for many years now. The business is very competitive. The Internet is continuing to become more and more of an indispensable tool for consumers. That is why every company out there that produces something or provides some kind of service needs a website that is easy to find by their future clients and offers their product in the best possible way. The competition is just a click away.
Here are the components that every successful website needs:
1. DOMAIN NAME:
Domain names are characters that allow users of the Internet to find information without having to use the numbers system that computers understand. They are a translation for communication that replaces an unfamiliar system with one that is familiar. When a user types a domain name into their browser the DNS (Domain Name System) fulfills the request and directs the user to the location where the information for the domain resides and respectively – the website. A newly-registered Domain Name usually takes approximately 24-48 hours to become visible. Domain name prices vary with different domain name providers. Registering a domain name gives the owner the exclusive right to use it for their website. Domains are registered on a first come-first served basis. Domain names should be easy to remember and as short as possible.
2. WEBSITE DESIGN:
Website Design is the actual creation of your content in a way that is suitable for the Internet. It is an art. Successful websites have unique design and features. Creating your page is not just typing text and attaching pictures. It is a process of planning, research, implementation of the content and producing the actual website. At the end its just a bunch of files – html, php and some pictures that are embedded. Of course the creation of every website design requires a touch of art. The design is a very important part of your online project. Even if you have many visitors on your site, but your site does not transmit the right message, these visitors will not convert into clients. The design of the site has to be corresponding to the product you are selling and to the target audience that is going to see it. Some sites are too complex, some sites are too simple. For example, a website that is selling hi tech products and is too simple cannot be successful. The consumers of such products are usually computer geeks who like to see everything online in every detail. For other types of products it is exactly the opposite! That is why a website has to be designed by a professional webdesign studio. Experts that know what is important for online success.
3. WEBSITE AND E-MAIL HOSTING:
On the Internet, shared hosting is the provisioning of Web server hosting services so that a company (or individual) doesn’t have to purchase and maintain its own Web server and connections to the Internet in order to have a website online. Some companies providing this service simply call it “hosting.” Typically, shared hosting provides a customer who wants a Web site with: domain name registration assistance, multiple domain names that map to the registered domain name, some web space on a hard drive, and directory setup for the Web site files, e-mail addresses, and, optionally, Web site creation services. It means that you don’t have to make a big investment in a server to have a website online. The web hosting company has already done that for you. This is actually the place where your site resides. If the domain name is the name of your business, hosting is the location where your business operates from.
4. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION and WEBSITE MARKETING:
A recent survey by J.D. Power and Associates shows that 75% of the clients who are looking to buy a car have been searching for their car online. Most of the traffic goes through the search engines. This is true for other businesses as well. This makes the online presentation of the product very important for consumers. Your website is the face of your company for 75% of your future clients! This is why businesses and corporations that have well prepared and comprehensive, appealing website have a greater chance to sell and make profit.
And even if you have the greatest website on the Internet, it will not work for you if nobody visits it. Also known as SEO, this technique is very complex and controversial. In general SEO services are services that bring your website to higher positions on the search engines for different keywords. Onsite SEO is the optimization of meta tags, keywords, content, graphics, html code, etc. There are many components to that. It is a very important part of website creation. And since Google constantly changes its policy for page rank and results generation, this part has to be considered very carefully. Sometimes Google will actually penalize websites that have excessive keywords or broken code. There are good graphic designers that create great websites, but not all of them know how Google and the other search engines work. This is why you need to find a professional search engine optimization company to take care of your website.
Everyone knows Google. Google is constantly growing. The people who work there have been constantly changing and developing new algorithms for page rank and the way different competitive websites are arranged in their search. That is why successful companies in SEO charge a lot to get your website optimized. Good site optimization means more traffic. More traffic means more visitors. And more visitors and a good website that promotes your product in an attractive way means more sales. This is money well spent on marketing!
5. WEBSITE UPDATES:
Once you have your site on the Internet, you need to update it. Websites that are rarely updated usually go down on Google’s search result list. Visitors also do not like to visit sites that don’t have anything new. Why would you come back to a site that never chnages? Websites are designed to transmit information. If this information does not change, people get used to it and they don’t want to go there again to find out something they already know. Having a BLOG or a NEWS section can bring people to your site over and over. If you update it regularly people will keep coming back, because they are curious to know what’s the news. And remember – more traffic means more business!
